Discover Bali's Hidden Gems: Unveiling Enchanting Waterfalls and Hot Springs
A Journey to Leke Leke Waterfall
Our Bali adventure began with a scenic 40-minute drive from Ubud to the north, where we were eager to explore some stunning waterfalls. Our first stop was Leke Leke Waterfall, a place we had visited four years prior, but this time, it was almost unrecognizable! A newly constructed path made the descent much easier than our previous muddy trek.
The path wound through the jungle, creating a sense of peaceful isolation. Arriving early in the morning allowed us to enjoy the tranquility of the falls before the crowds arrived. The sight of Leke Leke cascading through the vibrant green foliage was truly breathtaking. While swimming isn't permitted, the sheer beauty of the waterfall makes it a must-see.
We enjoyed a delicious Balinese nasi goreng breakfast at the on-site restaurant, taking in the magical views. The experience highlighted the importance of preserving these natural wonders, especially with increasing deforestation around the world.
An Unexpected Discovery: A Secret Waterfall
After reminiscing with Bagus, a local we had connected with on Instagram years ago, we embarked on an unexpected detour. He led us to another waterfall, promising a "7 out of 10" experience. The reality far exceeded his modest rating! This hidden gem offered a more authentic, less touristy feel than Leke Leke.
The refreshing waterfall pool was an invitation we couldn't resist. Swimming in the cool water, surrounded by lush greenery, felt like being transported to another world, reminiscent of Sumba. We were incredibly grateful to Bagus for sharing this special place with us.
This secret waterfall is on private land and may not be accessible for much longer, as Bagus plans to build a house there in the coming year. We feel fortunate to have experienced its beauty while we could.
Balinese Hospitality and a Laughing Chicken
Following our swim, we joined Bagus's family at their traditional Balinese home for refreshments. We were charmed by their hospitality and intrigued by their unique "laughing chicken," kept purely for entertainment. Its distinctive call was unlike anything we'd heard before!
A Rejuvenating Finale: Hot Springs Oasis
Our day culminated with a visit to local hot springs, another hidden gem we wouldn't have discovered without Bagus. The entrance fee was a mere 50,000 IDR per person, and the experience was priceless. The hot springs were an oasis of tranquility, surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Stepping into the warm, deep pools was pure bliss. With several pools to choose from, including indoor options (though the outdoor pools offered breathtaking views), we found the perfect spot to relax and soak in the therapeutic waters.
This unexpected hot springs experience was the perfect ending to our day of exploration. Bali truly has something for everyone, from stunning waterfalls to rejuvenating hot springs, and we were thrilled to have uncovered these hidden gems.
Plan Your Adventure
